Chapel & Christian Formation
Chapel
& Christian Formation at Crean Lutheran High School
Come let us bow down in worship. Let
us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture. Psalm 95:6
Faculty. As the faculty of CLHS, we will…
- daily meet in a designated room at 7:05 to
begin the day with a reflection on a Scripture verse and prayer
- participate in reading through the Bible and will integrate
this daily reading into the curriculum and daily conversational culture of
CLHS.
- be in daily worship with the students
- co-facilitate the “Life Groups” with a student
- begin classes, meetings, practices, rehearsals, and
events with prayer.
Parents and Families. As parents of CLHS, you will be invited to…
- read through the Bible with your children.
- attend Christian Parenting Classes. These are held in
the fall and spring in 6 week sessions. Children are God’s homework
assignment to parents!
- daily pray with and for your children, weekly worship
with you children, and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ
(II Peter 3:15) with your children.
Students. As students of CLHS, you will…
- read through the Bible during their 4 years at CLHS.
Scripture will be integrated into the curriculum and into the daily
conversations and culture of CLHS.
- participate in daily worship
Monday: Class split Chapel led by the faculty Tuesday: Split-Gender Chapel led by the faculty
Wednesday: Corporate Worship led by an outside speaker, faculty member, or
student. Thursday: Life Groups led by the
faculty in classrooms
Friday: in-room devotions Life Groups led by the
faculty in classrooms
- participate and/or lead prayer before classes,
meetings, practices, rehearsals, and events.
- participate in missions and servanthood. We at CLHS
believe in the call to be “Glocal” servants in our ministry: (Acts
1:8) You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to
the ends of the earth. Throughout a student’s enrollment at CLHS, safe
and supervised service projects “in the name of Christ” will be made
available. While no required number of hours is prescribed, the life of
Christian discipleship is marked by service. (Mark 10:45) For even the
Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life
as a ransom for many. (1 Peter 2:21) To this you were called,
because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should
follow in His steps. A progression of Christian service participation
throughout the four years will look something like the following:
- participate in a discipleship tool called “mentoring.” Under the direction and encouragement of
Pastor Bartlett, each CLHS student is encouraged to have a “Paul, a
Timothy, and a Barnabas”:
- Paul: a mentor from whom to learn to walk with Jesus
more closely.
- Timothy: a person to mentor and nurture in his/her
relationship with Jesus.
- Barnabas: an accountability or training partner in
being a disciple of Jesus.
- memorize Scripture. (Psalms 119:11) I have hidden
your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. In theology class, students will commit
to memory 60 Bible verses which, hidden in their heart, will not return
empty (Isaiah 55:11), but will guard, guide and accomplish the Lord’s Will
and ways in the students’ lives.
Chapel
for Students and Faculty
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of our chapels is to worship
our Lord Jesus Christ. As we celebrate His gift of grace and His sacrifice for
us, we worship the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, through music,
confession of faith, confession of sins, the receiving of His forgiveness,
hearing the Word, our offerings and prayer.
Worship is a part of every day at Crean Lutheran. On
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays the entire school gathers for chapel
after the second block class. On Fridays, due to teachers’ Professional
Learning Communities (PLCs), worship is led by the second block teacher or
student in the classroom.
