Financial Aid Instructions and Information
Need-Based Financial Aid Process
Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, as it is written: "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little." Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift — Jesus Christ! II Corinthians 8:13-15, 9:15

Summary of Financial Aid Process and Program:

1. A Financial Aid Committee will annually make recommendations for need-based awards.

2. Timeline:
a. Make application to school by “early decision date” – mid-February.
b. February – Annual "How on Earth do I Pay for/Finance Christian Education for Heaven's Sake? (A practical workshop)" All families applying for financial aid are asked to attend.
c. March 1 – all applications and materials due.
d. April 15 – confidential notification to all applicants. Unfortunately, not all applicants are guaranteed financial aid.
e. April 30 – deadline for acceptance of aid. If financial aid is not accepted by the family through finalizing the enrollment process, the award may be withdrawn and/or redirected.
3. Financial aid is on an annual basis only. Financial aid is based on current assessed need and is granted only on an annual basis. Families need to apply every year. If a family’s financial situation changes, financial aid amount may change as well.

4. Prioritized criteria have been established to fairly distribute financial aid. Financial aid awards are distributed according to the following prioritized criteria until the budgeted amount for scholarships is reached.
a. Families who were awarded financial aid last year and whose need for financial aid is established again this year.
b. Families who had a child attend CLS last year and did not need financial aid but due to a change in circumstances now have an established need for financial aid.
c. New families whose need for financial aid is established.
5. Crean Lutheran South High School establishes the need for financial aid through a review of each family’s financial aid application by an impartial, anonymous fiduciary committee. CLS administrative staff are not members of this committee.

6. All awards must meet the criterion of demonstrated financial need. In addition to demonstrated financial need, the Financial Aid Committee also considers other factors such as the following:
a. Attendance at CLS’s annual "How on Earth do I Pay for/Finance Christian Education for Heaven's Sake? (A practical workshop)";
b. Other tuition (Christian school and/or university tuition) currently being paid for other immediate family members;
c. Appropriate “fit” of student into CLS’s culture;
d. Student recommendations/comments received by the CLS office and administration.
7. All communication concerning financial aid is directed through the CLS business office.

8. Due to the nature of financial planning and budgetary timelines, decisions of the committee are final.

9. Tuition assistance information is managed in a private and confidential manner.

10. Due to the sensitivities and individual uniquenesses of every family, financial aid applicants are asked to please respect this process and therefore not to share the financial aid decision, whether there is an award or not, with others. Questions regarding CLS’s financial aid process can be directed to the CLS business office.

11. Anyone may apply for financial aid. Lutheran High School of Orange County admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.
