Crean Lutheran South Extracurricular Opportunities *
- Mission Outreach Team
- In honor of its mission statement, “Proclaiming Jesus Christ Through Excellence in Education,” LSH will support a mission outreach program that seeks to witness to the community through service projects, youth mentoring opportunities, and other community-minded events.
- Orchestral Music
- Lutheran education has a rich history of ardent support for the performing arts, of which orchestral music is an important part. LSH will sponsor an after-school program that will unite student interest in this important area to prepare for concerts, musical theatre, and outreach opportunities.
- Vocal Music
- Training and preparing young people to sing a joyful song for the Lord though a comprehensive voice program is an important initiative for LSH. The program seeks to offer both classical and contemporary offerings for students to understand how to properly use their instrument to achieve both personal satisfaction and personal goals.
- Praise & Prayer Team
- A vital component of the Crean Lutheran South performing arts program will be the gifts assembled through the Praise & Prayer Team. This group will bring together interested parties who have instrumental and/or vocal interests in performing at weekly chapel services, off camps at local Lutheran elementary schools, and in the community.
- Theatre / Drama
- Crean Lutheran South is proud to announce the formation of a theater troupe that will perform a range of stage plays, musicals, and chancel drama presentations throughout the year. Budding educational partnerships with Concordia University and Irvine Valley College will allow LSH to enjoy the benefit of professional theater expertise found on these campuses as well as the availability of outstanding facilities.
- Visual Art
- Welcoming and lifting up students’ artistic talents, which might be manifest through drawing, painting, and other mediums, is a significant element of the school’s commitment to championing the arts. Prominent displays of student work on campus, entering student work for public viewing, campus art shows, and providing real world opportunities will raise-up student work in this area.
- Student Leadership
- One of the most visible areas of student involvement on a high school campus can be found in student government. LSH will sponsor a student leadership team that will help guide the school’s slate of activities relevant to: Spirit Days, Dances, Campus Activities, and Outreach Activities…Note: School elections for the 2007-08 school year will occur in September.
- Cheerleading
- Peer Mentoring
- Sophomore students will have the unique opportunity to use their freshman experience to help support incoming LSH 9th graders make a successful transition into high school. Students interested in this leadership opportunity would be assigned a small group of incoming students to keep in touch with and encourage throughout the school year.
- Journalism
- Crean Lutheran South will offer students who would like to learn what it’s like to be on newspaper the opportunity to join the school’s student newspaper. Those interested in writing, desktop publishing (e.g. computer graphics and design), and/or photography are encouraged to join this club to produce regular online and paper editions of the school paper.
- Yearbook
- Participation on a school’s yearbook is perhaps one of the most popular extracurricular activities found on any high school campus. This will be an especially meaningful connecting point for interested students during Crean Lutheran South’s first year, as capturing the variety of inaugural and commemorative moments that will occur shall make the school’s first yearbook a particularly historic edition.
- Key Club
- Key Club is one of the oldest and largest student service organizations in the United States. With chapters all over the country, LSH students will not only have the opportunity to provide outreach services to those in need, but to do so as part of a national organization. Key Club annually hosts local, regional, and national conferences that seek to build fellowship while also developing ways to help benefit the community.
- Writing Club
- Crean Lutheran South passionately embraces those who desire to summon their inner muse through participation in the school’s writing club. Students who are interested in playwriting, screenwriting, short story writing, and other writing mediums are strongly encouraged to join. This group would also have the opportunity to produce the school’s literary magazine, which would solicit student work in breadth of literary and visual art categories.
- Audio-Visual Club
- The audio-visual club is a broad based club that seeks to join those who have a passion for media and would like to channel that love to produce a quality finished product. This club would have the opportunity to produce such things as school videos, school movies, short films, highlight films, student portfolio work, and more.
- Computer / Graphics Club
- Students who have enthusiasm for computers and would like to gather with others to share that zeal may do so through the computer club. In addition to sharing this passion, students in this area would have the opportunity to share their expertise to help with selected school projects related to graphic design for publications, tutoring those who need help learning various computer programs, and other important needs.
- Toastmasters Gavel Club
- Learning how to carry one’s self in a professional manner and how to speak clearly, concisely, and with conviction are critical life skills to master. Toastmasters is a national public speaking organization that helps young people and adults alike learn how to communicate effectively in order to maximize their interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Ambassadors’ Club
- Crean Lutheran South students who would like to be part of a team of students who represent the school at both on-campus and off-campus events are encouraged to join the Ambassadors’ Club. This group of students will, among many potential ideas, be available to help tour and answer questions for campus guests, greet newcomers at campus events, an go off campus to assist with outreach activities at local schools and civic organizations.
- Civil Air Patrol's School Enrichment Program
- Through CAP's Cadet program, LSH students will develop and enhance their leadership and teamwork skills, investigate the fundamentals of aerospace science, acquire the habit of exercising regularly, solidify their character, particpate in exciting hands-on activities and service to their communities that prepare them to become responsible citizens. For those looking forward to future appointment at one of the US military service academies, 6% to 10% of the incoming freshmen to the service academies were former CAP cadets. - Venture Crew

Venturing is a program where high-school age boys and girls take a lead role in organizing and running their own high adventure activities. This multimedia program, covers specific leadership skills in program planning, money-earning, and running effective committees. This presentation should be a first step in training effective crew leadership."
