Lutheran Education Is Not Only Christian, But Also Academically Excellent
In a recently published study (Jan. 2006), Lutheran schools scored significantly higher academically than all other schools (public, Catholic, charter, and other Protestant). Data for this study was derived from “the 2003 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) mathematics exam. When compared with other subjects (like reading, for instance), math is more heavily influenced by school than home experiences, so studying math achievement provides clearer insights into the relative performance of different types of schools. The 2003 NAEP samples are over ten times larger than in any previous NAEP administration, providing achievement and student, teacher, and administrator survey data on over 190,000 4th graders (up from 13,855 in 2000) in 7,485 schools, and more than 153,000 8th graders (up from 15,930 in 2000) in 6,092 schools.” (Christopher Lubienski, “Charter, Private, Public Schools and Academic Achievement,” p. 3).

CLS  Will Meet the UC A-G Entrance Requirements
Crean Lutheran South meet or exceed the University of California “A-G” subject area requirements ensuring that LHS-OC students can participate fully in the first-year programs at the university (specifically the UC system) and other elite institutions in a wide variety of fields of study. In order to meet or exceed this standard, LHS-OC will ensure that the UC A-G Standard’s required 15 year-long high school courses will meet UC approval and be offered to all students.

AP Courses
Crean Lutheran South offers AP (Advanced Placement) courses in a broad spectrum of subject matters.

Technology
Crean Lutheran South integrates technology both into the curriculum and into the instructional methodology. Students will learn how to use technology both in terms of being competent in the commonly used business and educational software programs, and being immersed in on-line learning, communication, and hybrid (on-line and in-class) education.

CIF Eligibility (California Interscholastic Federation)
In our first year, 2007-2008, we compete at the JV level, fielding teams made up of freshmen, sophomores and juniors. CIF rules require that all new schools complete at the JV level for their first year only; after the first year, the school is eligible for varsity competition. Our first year, we will have freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and will therefore field competitive teams at the JV level, scheduling appropriate competition in that first year. Starting in our second year, CLS  will be eligible for full varsity competition.

International Students
Being a brand new school, we will unfortunately not be able to issue I-20 forms to non-resident international students during our first academic year, 2007-2008.  However, we anticipate that we will be able to issue I-20 forms for international students beginning in our second academic year, 2008-2009.   We will establish an international studies department and will warmly welcome international students as an important segment of our 21st century, global educational environment and family!

Crean Lutheran South  Will Offer Special Needs Education
Special Needs education is offered to as large of spectrum of special needs students as possible.  Crean Lutheran South has a "Learning Success" program and a full time resource specialist teacher who works individually with students and families who benefit from individualized educational planning.

Christian nurture within the Academic Program of Crean Lutheran South
In the four years of Crean Lutheran South High (9th-12th grade), all students & faculty will read through the entire Bible, using a school-wide calendarization, and in a manner which is integrated across the curriculum. All graduates would have the distinction of having read through entire Bible.
  • All CLS students will be involved in “Peer Life Groups” for the purpose of providing encouragement and accountability in our call to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • “Homework Helper” – a four-year, two-semesters per year (6-week fall and spring terms) parenting class will be offered to all parents of Crean Lutheran South students. This course will address a wide range of parenting issues from Christian nurture to peer pressure, from selecting a college to dating. Children are God’s homework assignment to parents. Crean Lutheran South strives to integrate the student, family, school, church, and community within a consistent worldview and lifestyle.
  • Crean Lutheran South High School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.
  •
  • Foundations of Belief, Lifestyle, Integrity, and Witness at CLS for Staff, Board Members, Teachers, Students, and Families
The following Biblically-based statements reflect several important teachings, foundations, and lifestyle issues...
• …which are upheld in the teaching at CLS; in the expectations of all staff, board members, and teachers; and in our school culture; and
• … and which are respected by all students and families.

Intentional, willful, and/or persistent teaching, influence or behavior contrary to, or undermining of, these statements may disqualify a staff member, board member, student and/or family from enrollment and/or continuing involvement at Crean Lutheran South.
While CLS acknowledges that “all sin and fall short of the glory of God,” CLS also upholds Biblical standards and values which we, by God’s grace, affirm and strive to reflect. Deliberate and unrepentant rejection (Hebrews 10:26) of these values undermines the important Christian culture which our mission and vision statements affirm.
Biblically Grounded
• Honor the Bible as the standard by which we must evaluate all belief, instruction, policy, and practice (2 Tim. 3:16).
• Remain true to our statement of faith (2 Tim. 1:13).
Qualifications for Leadership
• Be servant leaders of evident ability and character (Ex. 18:21; 1 Tim. 3:1-13).
Spiritual Resources and Commitment
• Stay in close fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t give Him reason to say, “I have this against you, that you have left your first love”( Rev. 2:4).
• Do the work of CLS in the Lord’s wisdom, strength, and passions rather than trying to do it on your own or according to your will, not His Word. (Gal. 2:20; 3:3).
• Show a consistent pattern of behavior that distinguishes us as the Lord’s people, whether on or off the job (1 Pet. 1:14-15).
• Always trust in God and do what is right (1 Pet. 3:16).
Concern for Those We Serve
• Provide the kind of personal, prompt, and practical attention that we would want for ourselves (2 Cor. 4:5, 15).
• Speak the truth in love. Avoid being unnecessarily offensive (2 Tim. 2:24).
• Cultivate an open and honest relationship with those who respond to our efforts (2 Cor. 4:2).
Quality of Service
• Strive for a quality of workmanship and presentation that will dignify, strengthen, and enhance our message (1 Cor. 10:31).
• Be faithful stewards of every resource entrusted to us (1 Cor. 4:2).
Character of Service
• Reflect Titus 2:7-8: In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness {8} and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
• Reflect the highest sexual moral integrity consistent with Scripture… celibacy when single, fidelity when married. (Eph. 5:3)
• Marriage, reflecting God’s love for His children, is to be honored. While divorce tragically occurs in this life, it is always taken seriously, and may be grounds for termination of employment or disqualification from consideration for employment. Rare exceptions, agreed to by both principal and the board of directors, may be granted in unusual situations where repentance, counseling, and profession of agreement with God’s Word regarding marriage and divorce are professed. (I Cor. 7)
• Support the Bible’s intent that marriage be between one man and one woman in life-long commitment. (Rom. 1:18-23)
• Avoid indebtedness (Rom. 13:8).
• Never make our organizational survival the dominant motive for decisions (Phil. 1:19-26).
• Avoid self-congratulation (Prov. 27:2).
Relationship to the Whole Ministry
• Recognize, respect and support what the Lord is doing through all ministries of the church—not just your area. (1 Cor. 1:10-13).
• Avoid any lifestyle or work-practice that would compromise our purpose or weaken our effectiveness (2 Cor. 6:14).
• Conduct your ministries in a way that supports, encourages, and complements the whole church (Eph. 4:1-7).
